Yosemite, CA -- After serving the Yosemite community for over 60 years, the El Portal market burned to the ground on April 21st of last year.

Yosemite officials worked over a year to renovate a former National Park Service office so it could be the new home of the market.

Around 60 people attended a gathering to celebrate the re-opening, including acting Park Superintendent Dave Uberuaga.

“It’s important to have a place like this for the community, where people can meet and talk and have some coffee,” says Uberuaga. “We put this project on the fast track. I feel gratified to see all the folks here and how busy it is.”

The El Portal Market serves both local residents and visitors entering and exiting the park through the Hwy 140 corridor.
