Sonora, Ca -- The Stanislaus National Forest is in the process of conducting one prescribed burn, with another set to start next week.

The 1,575 acre North Beardsley Underburn project has begun along Forest Service Rd. 5N02, located approximately five miles northwest of Strawberry. Officials say burning will continue through Saturday and possibly into Sunday.

Set to begin on Monday is the Wrights Creek Prescribed Burn in the Mi-Wok Ranger District. The site is located four miles south of Long Barn in the Tuolumne River drainage near Fahey Meadow, north of Marble Mountain. Over a five day period, approximately 400 acres will be treated with low intensity fire.

Smoke will be visible with both prescribed burns. The burn days will vary slightly, contingent on weather, burn day status and available suppression resources.
