LaDeane Hansten

Sonora, CA -- Sonora High Swimming Coach LaDeane Hansten is being recognized for the impact she has on her athletes both in and out of the pool.

Hansten is one of six "Model Coach Award" winners for 2009 in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, as announced by section commissioner Peter Saco. It is open to all sports and given to coaches that are positive role models for the athletes and the community at-large.

"I just really enjoy watching the kids grow, seeing them go to college and staying in touch with their families," says Hansten. "For us a big thing is that we don't cut kids, and anybody who wants to try it, can try it. We'll work with them to the best of our abilities."

Hansten started coaching swimming at Sonora High in the mid-nineties when the program was first implemented.

Hansten is also one of two SJS winners of the State CIF Model Coach Award for 2009, and has been told that she will soon be notified by the state with more information regarding the honor.
