Sonora, CA -- Tuolumne County has received an $800,000 state grant that will primarily benefit lower income first time home buyers.

Roughly $400,000 will go towards the first time homebuyer loan program, $350,000 will be available for the owner occupied rehabilitation program, and $50,000 for the rental assistance program.

"We apply for these funds every year, and it is a very competitive process," says Sheila Shanahan with the county's Housing Division. "We were delighted to receive a grant for this year."

To be eligible for a low income first time homebuyers loan, a resident must be below a certain level of yearly income. Single people have to make less than $32,650, a family of two below $37,300, a family of three below $42,000, a family of four below $46,650 and a family of five below $50,499.

The owner occupied rehabilitation funds will be available for residences that have serious health and safety issues that are in need of repair.
