Tired Of Political Parties?

Sonora, CA — Heading into the June primary election, the number of voters declining to state a political party is growing in both the state and Mother Lode.

There are 17.6 million registered voters in California. Statewide, the Secretary of State’s Office reports 44% are registered as Democrats, down one percent from four years ago, Republicans make up 29%, down two percent, and the percentage of voters with no party preference is up slightly to 21%.

Below is a look at how party affiliation has changed in the Mother Lode when comparing the past two June primaries.

Tuolumne County

2014:                                          2012:

Democrats: 31.82%                    Democrats: 32.4%

Republicans: 41.88%                  Republicans: 42.5%

Decline to State: 20.01%             Decline to State: 19%

Calaveras County

2014:                                          2012:

Democrats: 30.75%                    Democrats: 31.3%

Republicans: 42.31%                  Republicans: 42.8%

Decline to State: 19.03%            Decline to State: 18.4%
