Great Sierra River Clean Up Coming Up This Weekend

Sonora, CA - An event designed to demonstrate the community's commitment to clean water and healthy rivers is coming up this Saturday.
Locally, the Great Sierra River Clean Up will focus on the North Fork Tuolumne River, Sonora Creek, Woods Creek, Turnback Creek and Sullivan Creek.
"Currently we have about 40 volunteers from the community signed up," says Phyllis Ashmead of the Stanislaus National Forest, one of the organizers.
The event is part of a larger effort sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and California Coastal Commission. Thousands of volunteers statewide will come together to pick up trash along the numerous rivers of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
The local clean up is being organized by the Stanislaus National Forest, Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District, Tuolumne River Trust, Tuolumne Utilities District and the Tuolumne County Mi-Wuk Ranger District.
