Quick response by Sonora area firefighters helped keep a flames burning in a single story home from spreading to surrounding brush and trees.

The fire on Rugged Trail Road off Tuolumne Road in East Sonora was first reported around ten-thirty this morning. Fire officials say no one was at home when the fire started. It was confined to the interior of the house.

Deb Fish with the Tuolumne County Fire department said the fire was mainly confined to about a quarter of the interior of the structure and smoke damage was all through the 1,200 square foot home. An early damage estimate was around $60,000.

Tuolumne Road was closed down to traffic in both directions for more than an hour today because firefighters had to run large water supply lines across the pavement from the hydrant to fire engines at the scene.

Cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.
