Big Meadow Fire Closing In On 6,000 Acres Burned

Yosemite National Park, CA -- The latest update shows that the Big Meadow Fire has burned 5,938 acres an increase of 681 acres from Tuesday.
Containment of the eight day old fire remains at 55 percent.
There has been no change in road closures. The Big Oak Flat Rd. remains closed to through traffic at the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station to the junction of El Portal Rd. Also Tioga Rd. remains closed to through traffic from White Wolf to the Crane Flat Gas Station. There is no projected reopening date at this time for either road.
Crane Flat and Tamarack Flat Campgrounds along with Foresta remain closed. At this time there is no projected reopening date.
The fire continues to burn in a north easterly direction toward the Tamarack Flat Campground which remains closed.
Today's resources included some 1,300 firefighting personnel. Overall there are 104 engines, 19 water tenders, six dozers, seven helicopters and a half a dozen air tankers on site.
In addition only the test site for the Foresta Big Meadow Prescribed Burn was actually burned a week ago today. The fire quickly moved in another direction.
