Washington, DC -- The federal government has given top honors to a Calaveras County elementary school.

The U.S. Department of Education bestowed "2005 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon" honors upon Rail Road Flat Elementary School this week.

The award is based on high test scores and was given to 34 California schools. Officials say the honor is significant, given the lower income economic factors of the community.

Rail Road Flat has 90 students enrolled and staffs four full-time teachers.
