Update: Fatal Crash On Highway 4

Update at 4 p.m.: The CHP is actively investigating a fatal solo-vehicle crash on Highway 4 near Utica Powerhouse Road in Murphys that happened around 12:30 p.m.  A search was conducted in the area using a helicopter, officers and divers in case anyone else was involved in the accident after drivers retrieved the deceased individual from the vehicle. The CHP has not released any further information regarding the search.  The name of the person that died  is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Update at 2:30 p.m.: The CHP reports the name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of family.  The vehicle went off the highway around 12:30 p.m. near Utica Powerhouse Road. It went down an embankment and overturned into the water below. Divers were able to free a person from the submerged vehicle. CPR was given but the individual died at the scene, according to the CHP.  Currently, a helicopter, officers and divers are searching for any other possible victims.  The highway is not blocked and traffic is moving freely.

Murphys, CA — The CHP and a dive team are on the scene of a solo-vehicle accident involving a fatality on Highway 4 in  Murphys. The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. when a vehicle went off the roadway near Utica Powerhouse Road, down an embankment and overturned into the water below. Divers were able to pull one individual from the vehicle. Emergency crew gave them CPR, but the person succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. The CHP has also called in a helicopter to make a sweep of the area to try to locate any other possible victims as it is unknown whether anyone else was in the vehicle, according to the CHP.
