Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – The CHP reports no wrecks resulted in deaths on Mother Lode roadways over the Memorial Day weekend, but drivers got plenty of tickets.

Jamestown Unit CHP spokesperson Sgt. Gary Soria says, “The weekend was very successful because there were no fatalities.” In Tuolumne County, there were four traffic collisions; two were DUI related, three involved property damage and one with minor injuries. There were three DUI arrests. Soria adds, “Officers gave out 80 citations, which is at least four times the normal. Most were for speeding and seatbelt violations.”

In Calaveras County, officers arrested four drivers for DUI and there were four unrelated accidents, one involving a minor injury.  In all, 28 motorists were ticketed for a range of offenses including speeding, not using a hands free cell phone, seatbelt violations and one citation for a child not in a car seat.
