Sponsored by:

Valley Springs, CA — Two men have been arrested for attempted murder following an incident in Calaveras County.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that an unidentified 59-year-old man was attacked in the 300 block of Paloma Road, and suffered significant injuries. He was taken away by ambulance to a hospital in the Central Valley on Sunday evening at approximately 6pm.

Deputies learned through witnesses that two men threw something at the victim’s vehicle, which caused him to stop.  One of the suspects was wearing a ski mask and holding a baseball bat. The victim stepped out of his vehicle, and was pepper sprayed by one of the suspects. The two men then proceeded to attack the victim, using the bat.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspects were 43-year-old Jeffrey Scott Newby and 18-year-old Mike Patrick Newby. A search warrant was served yesterday on Paloma Road, at a residence near the attack, and both men were located and arrested.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has not released any more information about what led up to attack, or why they committed the crime.
