Sacramento, CA - The Associate Press reports the State Senate leader Darrell Steinberg will meet this week with administration and congressional officials in Washington D.C. He is there to promote how California has dealt with mental illness issues in the state. The AP says Steinberg is pushing the state's model to become the one used for the nation.

California's voter-approved Mental Health Services Act raises $1 billion a year for early intervention and treatment. The money is raised through a special tax on millionaires. The AP says Steinberg is urging the federal government to devote $10 billion to help states establish additional mental health programs.
