Third Grade Yosemite Poetry Winner

Contest Winner Hunter Lee

Yosemite, CA - The winner of the Gateway Expressions Student Art and Poetry Contest is a local third grader, Hunter Lee. He won 1st place in the 2nd-3rd grade division. Lee is a student at Lake Don Pedro Elementary School. This is the second year Yosemite National Park and the Ansel Adams Galley have hosted the contest.
The park received 140 pieces of artwork and the winners works were hung up for public view. Lee's poem reportedly touched on the moods and depths of Yosemite with his poem "I Love Yosemite". Lee's Third grade teacher, Mrs. Dyer, was also recognized for her participation and encouragement and received a "Parks as Classrooms Program" for her class.
Also in the 6th-8th Grade Art category Kayla Hyatt was awarded Honorable Mention. She also attends Lake Don Pedro Elementary and her teacher, Mrs. Keane was recognized for her participation and encouragement.
Park officials say the contest is a way the park and the Ansel Adams Gallery can celebrate the creativity of youth in the Yosemite gateway communities. The Yosemite Conservancy helped fund the contest.
