Reducing Crashes On Highway Corridors

Sonora, CA - The Sonora CHP wants to cut down on the number of car crashes on the highway corridor. They say thanks to a federal grant funding an additional 3,000 hours of man power for a year they will be able to put more patrols along Highway 120, 49 and 108.
"We continue to observe too many motorists who are being killed and injured in collisions along our local highways," says CHP Lt. Scott Clamp. He adds, "The implementation of the second phase of this traffic safety grant will once again provide our officers with the funding to help meet' the CHP's goal of ensuring safe travels along this traffic corridor."
The CHP says from 2008 through 2010 there was an average of five people killed per year in collisions and approximately 97 victims injured annually.
"We encourage all motorists to be a part of this traffic safety endeavor whether it's buckling up, traveling at a safe speed for conditions, never getting behind the wheel if they're under the influence, and eliminating distractions while driving", added Lt. Clamp.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
