Caboose at Railtown 1897

Sonora, CA -- There will be an event in Sonora to recognize organizations that helped keep the gates open at local state parks.

It wasn't too long ago that parks like Railtown 1897 in Jamestown were on the state parks closure list. California Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen will host a "State Parks Appreciation Night" at the Sonora Opera Hall this Tuesday evening. Supporters of Railtown, the Mariposa Mining and Mineral Museum and Mono Lake Tufa Reserve will be in attendance to receive recognition from the California Assembly.

One of the guest speakers will be Robert Hanna, who is the great-great-grandson of naturalist John Muir. Officials from the California State Parks Department and the California State Parks Foundation will also be on hand to provide an update on the future of California's State Parks.

Tuesday's event at the Opera Hall runs from 5:30-7pm. It is open to the public.
