Burson, CA - CHP reports 53 year old Augustine Cortez of Valley Springs died in the wreck.
It happened on Burson Road, just south of Camanche Parkway in Calaveras County around 2pm on Monday. The CHP reports for unknown reasons Cortez lost control of his 1992 Ford Explorer on a curve and went over the double yellow lines and off the roadway. His truck then headed down an embankment, through a barbed-wire fence, and into a tree.
Spokesperson Rebecca Myers says, "This resulted in fatal injuries to Mr. Cortez who was pronounced dead at the scene. The county coroner is performing an autopsy and toxicology has been drawn. It's possibly a DUI."
Myers says the accident is still under investigation.
