Moccasin, CA - One person was flown out of the area, and two others were taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center, following a crash on Highway 120.

27-year-old James Atkins of Moccasin was traveling west on Highway 120, and came to a stop as he waited to make a legal left turn onto Highway 49. The CHP reports that 41-year-old Pamela Cassaretto of Groveland was traveling behind Atkins, and did not see him slow down because she was looking at her cell phone. When Atkins looked back and saw that Cassaretto was not slowing down, he stepped on the gas trying to avoid a collision. Cassaretto eventually saw Atkins, but it was too late by the time she slammed on the brakes. She hit Atkins from behind, sending his car into the opposing traffic lane. Atkins' car then hit an oncoming vehicle driven by 20-year-old Hannah Herbert of San Francisco.

Atkins was flown to Memorial Medical Center to treat "major injuries." Cassaretto and Herbert both had "moderate injuries" and were taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center. It happened Saturday afternoon at 2:20pm.

Updated at 1:30pm: A fourth person, a passenger in Herbert's vehicle, was also later treated for injuries at SRMC.
