Lightning Strikes Cause Problems
Lightning strikes have resulted in a vegetation fire and a power outage.
There is a vegetation fire burning near Copperopolis. It is in the area of Salt Springs Valley Road near the Hunt Road intersection. There are no reports of any homes being in danger. CAL Fire estimates the fire to be around 30-40 acres. Officials believe it was likely caused by a lightning strike. To view a map of the area, click here.
Also, a lightning strike has reportedly hit a transformer on Darby Russell Road. It is near the intersection of Wild Ridge Drive. It did not result in any type of vegetation fire. Calaveras County has around 180 customers without electricity. To view a map of the region, click here.
