Potential Gold Rush Charter School Building
Potential Gold Rush Charter School Building

Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Planning Commission will take up a proposal by Gold Rush Charter School to move into a building near the intersection of Longeway Road and Crestview Drive.

The property is located at 16953 Amy Drive, which is approximately 260 ft. from the Longeway/Crestview intersection. Gold Rush Charter School is asking that the property be rezoned from Light Industrial to General Commercial. An existing 7,780 square ft. building on the property would be used to house the school. The building was most recently used by the company Skyway Moldmaking and Precision Machining Services.

In addition, the Commission will take up a proposal to rezone nearly 22 acres along Jordan Way West in Sierra Village. Currently the land is zoned as Rural Residential. The proposal calls for two acres to be Estate Residential and 19.8 acres as a Timber Production Zone. The site is traditionally known as Camp Cedarbrook, and served as a camp for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from 1948 until 2005. There are several structures on the property. The bunkhouse/caretakers lodge will be retained. There are also shower houses, water tanks, an underground pool, and two outdoor areas with amphitheater seating. County documents list the project proponents as the Odd Fellows Sierra Recreation Association and Robert S. Ozbirn.

The Planning Commission meeting will begin at 6pm on April 4th in the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting room.
