Highway 120 Visitors Center To Open This Month

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Visitor’s Bureau will soon be operating a Visitor’s Center out of the Chinese Camp Volunteer Fire Station.

TCVB Executive Director Nanci Sikes was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The Visitor’s Bureau has reached a lease agreement on a portion of the Fire Station and will spend the next two weeks making necessary improvements and signage.

Sikes stated that they were forced to leave the former site because the owner has decided to have the building demolished.

Unlike the old site, Sikes stated that this location will be “year-round” so although half of the Summer has passed, there will be a new advantage that the Bureau hasn’t had before.

This will also bring at least one new full-time job and at least one part time job. Sikes anticipates partial occupation of the fire station for perhaps the next two or three years.

While waiting to occupy the fire station, the TCVB has been supporting the Yosemite Ranger program in Groveland at the Groveland Visitors Center. This allows tourists to acquire specific information about Yosemite National Park before entering it.

According to Sikes, it is important to have the second location near the Yosemite Junction. “Many of our visitors are in route to Yosemite National Park, and it’s important that we capture them by the Highway 49/120 junction to make sure that they know that there are places to stay, dine and play in Groveland and other Tuolumne County locations,” says Sikes.
