Resident Of Tuolumne County Confirmed Positive For Coronavirus

Sonora, CA — The second COVID-19 case confirmed in Tuolumne County is the first involving a resident.

Public Health officials say they were notified Monday that the county’s second confirmed case is a 34-year-old female who lives locally. They say she tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered while isolated at home for the duration of the required quarantine period.

Officials state that her exposure to the virus occurred outside of the county in an area with community transmission before the Stay At Home order was issued, adding that because of the person’s action to immediately self-isolate, there is currently no risk for community transmission from this case.

As reported here, four days ago, a 31-year-old female from Mono County who was staying locally at a second home and tested positive for the novel coronavirus, was being isolated and treated at Adventist Health Sonora along with a companion who had minor symptoms but did not test positive. That person was determined to have contracted the virus in Mono County.

Currently, Calaveras County has three confirmed COVID-19 cases, as reported here, the latest of which, four days ago, triggered additional actions from County Health Officer Dr. Dean Kelaita.

Health officials say it is critical to continue following the state and local orders to avoid acquiring and prevent the spread of COVID-19. By limiting contact with those outside of your immediate family, physical distancing, enhanced protective hygiene and limiting travel to only essential trips, you can decrease the transmission of disease and save lives.
