Progress Continues Repairing Marshes Flat Road

Tuolumne, CA — Tuolumne County officials are hoping that Marshes Flat Road will reopen in early October.

The road was closed do to extensive storm damage in March of 2017. The CRA reports that the contractor, Syblon Reid, has faced challenges related rock, extreme heat, rattlesnakes and even a visit by a mountain lion at the site. Better progress is being made thanks to some revised drilling techniques over the past week.

Anchors are being placed into the hillside to hold a concrete ledge that will permanently restore the width of the road and feature a sturdy guardrail.

The final touches should be completed in just over a month, ahead of the winter season. More details about the project are in the August 15 news story, Repair Work Continues On Marshes Flat Road, here.

Back in May 2018, members of the board of supervisors were concerned, as detailed here, about the fire risk in the Marshes Flat Road area. In the summer of 2019 there have been two fires: August 2nd fire destroyed a home and spread to about 1-2 acres of nearby vegetation around the 6500 block of Marshes Flat Road as reported here, and August 5 at Marshes Flat Road and Highway 49, outside of Moccasin, reportedly a vehicle fire that spread to vegetation was contained at 1.29 acres.
