Ferguson Fire In Mariposa County Explodes To 1,000 Acres

El Portal, CA — A fire that ignited on Friday evening near El Portal in Mariposa County has grown to 1,000 acres.

The Sierra National Forest reports that it is five percent contained. The BLM campgrounds in the Briceburg area are closed until further notice. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for Savages Trading Post and Ferguson Ridge Road. An evacuation advisory is in effect for Cedar Lodge and the Jerseydale area of Mariposa County. Highway 140 is closed from Cedar Lodge to the top of Briceburg Grade and Incline Road is closed from Briceburg Bridge to the last BLM campground.

We reported earlier that the fire resulted in the death of a Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit CAL Fire equipment operator.
