Update: Fire Near New Melones Lake

Update at 1:30 p.m.: Ground and Columbia aircraft found a vegetation fire in the Tuttletown Recreation Area along Reynolds Ferry Road, off Highway 49 had almost completely been extinguished by campers when they arrived on the scene around one this afternoon.

CAL Fire reports the fire was in the Chamise Campground area at the southern end of the recreation area. The flames were contained at a small spot fire by ground crews within five minutes.

Original post at 1:05  p.m.: Tuttletown, CA — Ground and Columbia aircraft are heading to a vegetation fire in the Tuttletown Recreation Area along Reynolds Ferry Road, off Highway 49.

CAL Fire reports the fire is in the Chamise Campground area at the southern end of the recreation area. There is no word on the fire’s size or rate of spread or whether any structures are threatened. This is south of where the Whiskey Fire broke out on the same road on Thursday afternoon, as reported earlier here that fire was pronounced contained at 27 acres this morning by CAL Fire. We will have an update as soon as more information comes into the newsroom.
