Flat Fire Extinguished

Moccasin, CA – The Flat Fire that was burning in Tuolumne County is fully contained this morning.

CAL Fire reports that the acreage remained at 163 acres. The fire broke out south of Moccasin on Sunday (June 24) just before 1 p.m. At the height of the fire, resident along Jackass Ridge Road, Jackass Creek Road, Ofelia Court and Priest Coulterville Road to the Mariposa County line were evacuated in the afternoon. They were allowed to return to their homes around eight o’clock that night. Highway 49 was closed between Highway 120 and 132 for about 24 hours. Firefighters were hampered by rugged terrain and sizzling temperatures.  A detailed timeline of the fire can be viewed here.
