Original post at 3:55 p.m.: East Sonora, CA — Ground and air resources are battling a grass fire in East Sonora in the same area as one that ignited yesterday.

The flames are burning south of Highway 108 at the Mono Way intersection on the bypass. CAL Fire reports it is about a quarter acre in size and no structures are threatened. There is plenty of heavy smoke in the area so CAL Fire is asking motorists to avoid the area as the westbound lanes of the highway and Mono Way have been closed and CHP officers are directing one-way traffic control. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
