California Releases New Water Conservation Figures

Sacramento, CA — New statistics detail how local water conservation numbers compare to the rest of the state.

California water users cut usage by just over 17-percent last month, compared to 18.4-percent in December. The cumulative amount of water saved since June of last year has now dipped below the Governor’s 25-percent mandate (24.8-percent).

Felicia Marcus, Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board, says now is not the time to let the guard down. She added, “We’re hoping for a ‘Miracle March’ and ‘Awesome April.’ It could definitely happen, but until it does, we need to remember some things. We are in the worst drought since records started being kept, and we know from geo-physical evidence that this is not the longest drought in pre-recorded history in California.”

Locally, T.U.D. customers conserved by 14.4-percent last month, compared to the January of 2013 amount. The cumulative amount saved over the past several months is 33-percent, which is still comfortably above the state’s mandate.

The Calaveras County Water District conserved by 14.7-percent last month and the cumulative amount over the extended period is 29.4-percent.
