Poll Looks At Governor Brown’s Job Performance

Sacramento, CA — California voters continue to view Governor Jerry Brown in a positive light, but there are some concerns that he favors too many big government projects that the state cannot afford.

Those were the findings of a new statewide Field Poll released this morning. 56% of California voters approve of the job performance of Governor Brown, 30% disapprove and 14% have no opinion. Brown’s approval rating is identical to a previous Field Poll conducted this past October. The only difference is that 32% disapproved and 12% had no opinion.

65% say Brown has the right experience to deal with problems facing California, 55% feel he has the vision to lead the state into the future, and 55% say he is making California a world leader in reducing the State’s dependence on fossil fuels.

In the lone area where voters are critical, 56% believe that he “favors too many big government projects that the state cannot afford.” Examples of contentious projects that Brown favors include plans for a twin water tunnel through the Central Valley, and high speed rail.

Also of note, looking at the state as a whole, 50% feel that California is moving in the right direction, 42% say the wrong track, and 8% have no opinion.

Breaking down the approval rating numbers by party, 77% of Democrats like the job Governor Brown is doing, but only 23% of Republicans, and 57% of voters that have no party preference.
