Brown Weighs In On Refugee Debate

Sacramento, CA — As many Governors are speaking out against allowing Syrian refugees into their states, Governor Jerry Brown remains in support of President Obama’s plan.

In a statement sent to the Associated Press, Brown said Syrian refugees remain welcome in California, assuming they are “fully vetted in a sophisticated and utterly reliable way.” 27 Governors, mostly in Republican states, have now stated they are against allowing in the refugees.

The issue has drawn new attention after it was learned that one of the terrorists involved in the Paris attacks had snuck into the country by blending in with thousands of Syrian refugees. 129 people were killed in the attacks. It has sparked new questions about homeland security in relation to refugee programs. According to the Associated Press, the Refugee Processing Center says 218 Syrian refugees have arrived in California this year.

President Obama indicated this week that the country remains committed to accepting Syrian refugees, but that they must go through “rigorous screening” and security checks.
