Vegetation Fire In Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA – Firefighters remain on the scene of a 5-acre grass fire between San Andreas and Angels Camp.

The fire broke out just before 1 p.m. in a field near Calaveritas, Fricot City and Dogtown roads. Columbia air was called in to help battle the flames shooting up from the grass. Cal Fire reports an air tanker made a half load drop on the fire, allowing ground crews to put the blaze out in about 20-minutes.  Resources on scene included six engines, one hand crew and one water tender. Cal Fire reports no structures were threatened during the blaze.  The fire was contained around 1:21 p.m.

Crews remain on scene mopping up and checking for hot spots. There is no word on what sparked the flames, as an investigation is ongoing.
