Tuolumne, CA — Summerville High School will break ground on its new stadium Monday. As reported earlier, the Division of the State Architect approved the school’s stadium design last week. That gave the green light for this Monday’s 6 p.m. football field groundbreaking ceremony at the school.
“We are very excited!” says Superintendent Robert Griffith. “We would like to get it done by the football season, September 1. That’s a very tight time frame to be honest with you at this point.”
Contingency plans are already in place to have away games for the beginning of the season. In addition, the board approved concrete bleachers instead of aluminum to save about $200K. Engineers are still working on that design. It will have to be submitted to the State Architects for approval, which should happen in the next 20 days according to Griffith. He says the bleachers will be done last.
“This is a, do the best we possibly can as quickly as possible, and then evaluate as we go,” says Griffith.
The School Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting before the ground breaking to approve the final $3.1 million dollar bid by Contractor Robert E. Boyer Construction of Twain Harte.
