Update: Columbia Air Resources Helping Fight Fire In Mariposa County

Update at 9:45 a.m. Saturday: What started out as a call for Columbia aircraft to assist Stanislaus National Forest fire units in working a grass fire in Mariposa County turned into a total of three blazes in the Coulterville/Greeley Hill area.

The first blaze was sparked around 7 p.m. along Greeley Hill Road in the Diana Falls area and grew to a half an acre before being contained. Then another vegetation fire was spotted about 20 minutes later on Holtzel Road off Moore Creek. It was contained quickly at a tenth of an acre. Fifteen minutes after that another call came into the forest dispatch reporting a grass fire on Smith Station Road near the Blackstone Creek. Crews were able to contain it at a quarter of an acre.

Crews remained on the scene of the two larger fires until midnight mopping up and checking for hot spots. What ignited these blazes is under investigation.
