Sonora Named “Tree City USA” Community

Sonora, CA — Sonora has been named a “Tree City USA” community by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Sonora has met the four standards to become aTree City USA” community: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

This marks the 12th year the city has received the national recognition. According to City Manager Greg Applegate, the city sees trees as being a very viable and aesthetically pleasing attribute for the community.
