Clearing Ground Fuels To Shoot Off Fireworks

Valley Springs, CA – The Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of CAL Fire is making sure to get rid of any vegetation that could spark a wildfire during a traditional 4th of July event at a popular Calaveras County lake.

As a precautionary measure ahead of the “Fireworks over New Hogan” pyrotechnics show, crews will be igniting around 8 to 10 acres of grass along the shoreline of New Hogan Lake near the dam in Valley Springs on Wednesday, June 5th. The burn is expected to last anywhere from two to four hours with ignition slated to begin between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

CAL Fire officials share that control lines and the lake shoreline will be used to prevent the spread of fire from areas outside the burn. Additionally, they say that firefighters will remain on scene until all hotspots are out.

Throughout the day, smoke or even fire may be visible near the Hogan Lake Observation Point and the United States Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters office, off Hogan Dam Road, according to CAL Fire. They ask the public not to report the fire as a wildfire.
