California Is Number Two

For the first time since 2001, California is not considered the top state where most Americans desire to live.

California has ranked at the top of the Harris Poll since 2001, but this year dropped to number two behind Hawaii.

California is followed by Florida, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, Oregon, Arizona, Washington, Virginia, New York, Tennessee, Montana, Nevada and South Carolina.

California ranked first this year among the “Echo Boomers”, which is considered the age group of 18-34. Generation X (35-46) prefers Hawaii, the Baby Boomers (47-65) like Florida and Seniors (66+) favor Hawaii.

States considered in the “sun belt” have traditionally ranked high in the annual Harris Poll. Those surveyed were asked to choose where they would like to live, other than the state where they currently reside.
