Tuolumne County, CA – CAL Fire is encouraging everyone to keep a close watch on burn piles as escaped burns are still a major concern this time of year. Just this afternoon a CAL Fire reports a debris pile got out of hand and ignited a vegetation fire. It happened around one this afternoon on the 7600 Block of Reynolds Ferry Road near Columbia. Fire crews were able to put the blaze out quickly, but not until it had charred three acres of vegetation.
CAL Fire spokesperson Nancy Longmore says the person burning today was given a costly citation and warns, “You may be liable for the damages and dispersion cost which add up really quickly especially if you damage their property. Their insurance company is going to come knocking on your door as well as our cost recovery people.”
CALFire says they are still investigating how today’s the fire got out of hand. However, Longmore says one key is to never leave a burning fire unattended.
