Forest Fire Near Containment

Fire crews have nearly put a wrap on the Ramsey Fire burning in the Calaveras Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest.


Over the weekend, 95 percent containment was reached. The fire is now at 1,137 acres. At one point, 16 homes were in the line of the fire. The fire was started by an escaped campfire. 130 firefighters remain on scene this morning. Highway 4 is now open without any traffic controls. Motorists are still advised to travel with caution in the area. All recreational roads, lakes and campgrounds are open in the area near the fire.


Six firefighters have reported injuries while battling the blaze.
