Extinguishing Lightning Strike Fires

Copperopolis, CA — Firefighters remain busy extinguishing a fire Copperopolis and another near New Melones.


CAL Fire Spokesperson Lisa Williams reports that a two acre fire near Old Melones Road is now contained, and no structures were damaged. To view a map of the area, click here.


A fire in Copperopolis behind the Saddle Creek Golf Course is now 30 acres. CAL fire reports that it is in an area known as Gopher Ridge, and no homes or structures are in danger. To view a map of the area, click here. Both fires were the result of overnight lightning strikes.


Officials will remain busy monitoring for additional fires throughout the afternoon.
