Former Mother Lode Man Dies In Avalanche

A Bret Harte High School graduate tragically died this week after being buried in an avalanche near Haines, Alaska.

Nick Dodov had been snowboarding, according to Alaska State Troopers. Dodov succumbed to injuries he sustained after being buried in 6-8 ft. of snow. 35-year-old Robert Liberman of Telluride, Colorado was also killed.

Dodov, 26, had been living in Truckee, but previously resided in Bear Valley.

The two were wearing avalanche radio transceivers, which helped troopers find their locations. The avalanche occurred on Tuesday. State troopers said that Haines is a popular area for helicopter skiers. The backcountry area can only be accessed by helicopter, not by ski lift.
