One Down, One To Go

Madera County, CA — Down in Madera County, the Rolling Fire is contained at 482 acres. It is located off Highway 41. Cal fire say the cause of that blaze is still under investigation. Click here to view a map.

Near Mariposa, the cool, dry conditions have helped fire fighters in battling that blaze. Nearly 700 of the 1,500 evacuated were allowed to return to their homes last night; most of them live in the Lush Meadows area. Cal Fire reports the flames are now 40 percent contained.

Investigators say an unattended campfire is to blame for sparking the blaze that has left nearly three miles of vegetation burned. 500 homes are still threatened. Click here to view a map.

Update 7:20am: Cal Fire has decreased the number of acres burning from 1,888 to 1,621 thanks to computer GPS mapping. The number of homes threatened has also dropped from 500 to 150.

Update 10 am: Cal Fire says 1,000 evacuees are back in their homes, while 400 to 500 people remain evacuated. Crews plan to light backfires today to take out any potential fuel for the blaze.
