Identities Released For Highway 49 Accident

Sonora, CA — The two people tragically killed in a crash yesterday afternoon on Highway 49 near Fraguero Road have been identified as 82 year-old Jacqueline and 83 year-old Edward Stanton both of El Dorado.

The CHP says 57-year-old Laura Zaum of Jamestown allowed her 2005 Toyota to drift into the opposing traffic lane and hit a 1995 Buick head-on. The Buick burst into flame killing the Stantons.  Zaum was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto suffering major injuries. The only passenger in her vehicle, 18-year-old Lucas Miller of Sonora, was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center to treat minor injuries. It is not known what caused Zaum to drift into the opposing lane. The crash is still under investigation. It happened shortly before 3:30pm.
