Wheeler Fire Nears Full Containment

Coulterville, CA — Crews made very good progress gaining containment yesterday on the 115 acre Wheeler Fire near Coulterville.

It ignited on Monday at 12:30pm and initially required evacuations in some nearby neighborhoods. All of the evacuation warnings were lifted though by Monday evening. As of this morning, CAL Fire reports that it is 95-percent contained. Mop-up operations will continue today. The fire is situated near the intersection of Wheeler Gulch Road and Highway 49.

In Merced County, the 185 acre Dinosaur Fire has also reached 95-percent containment. It ignited recently near the intersection of Highway 152 and Dinosaur Road near the community of Santa Nella.
