Update: Weekend Begins With A Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 5 AM Saturday for the Sierra Nevada above 8,000 feet.

Total snow accumulations will range from one to six inches above the 8,000 foot elevation.

In addition, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected with frequent dangerous lightning.

Locations impacted include Tuolumne Meadows, Highway 120 Tioga Pass, Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass, Highway 108 Sonora Pass and hiking trails near the crest of the Sierra. Those involved in outdoor recreation and hiking in the high country, should be prepared for winter-like conditions.

Hazardous driving conditions are expected over the high Sierra passes. Expect reduced visibilities and chain controls at times. Use caution when driving on snow covered roads and plan on an alternate route.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
