Update: March Begins With Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Mother Lode and the Sierra Nevada through 10 PM tonight.

Snow showers have decreased in coverage and intensity this morning, but will increase again this afternoon. These showers will continue into the evening, with lingering, lighter mountain snow possible overnight into Sunday.

Some snow may fall to as low as the 1,500 feet elevation, with more significant snow accumulations above 2,500 feet. Snow could be heavy at times with thunder and lightning. Plan on difficult travel conditions and significant reductions in visibility at times .

Additional snow accumulations in the Mother Lode (below 3,000 feet) will range from one to four inches.

Additional snow accumulations in the Sierra Nevada (above 3,000 feet) will range from four inches to one foot.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. Travel is not recommended while the Warning is in effect. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
