Douglas Fire Grows In Stanislaus National Forest

Tuolumne County, CA — A lightning caused fire being monitored in the Stanislaus National Forest is up to 10 acres.

The Douglas Fire is approximately 15 miles outside of Kennedy Meadows in the Summit Ranger District, and south of the Douglas picnic area off Highway 108. It is burning in an isolated area where no structures are considered in danger. Late last week it was less than an acre in size, but it grew to 10 acres, as it rolled down a mountain side and experienced some tree torching. Forest Service firefighters are monitoring the activity, and stopping the spread as needed. The fire is situated in steep and rocky terrain, making access very difficult. A single helicopter, hand crew, and 19 firefighters are assigned to the incident. The growth is being kept within a pre-planned area that allows for fire to be returned to the landscape. There are no evacuations or trail closures.
