CHP Releases Name In Fatal Crash

Calaveras County, CA – The CHP has identified the driver that died in a solo-vehicle wreck in Calaveras County that involved a large tree.

As earlier reported here, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Highway 12 near Evans Road. The CHP reports that 69-year-old Steven E. Sapp of Ripon was driving an SUV westbound when he allowed the vehicle to drift off the roadway onto the right shoulder where it smashed into a big oak tree.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident, according to the CHP, which notes that incident is still under investigation.  Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact the CHP San Andreas Unit at 209-754-3541.
