Air And Ground Search Continues For Missing Man

Tuolumne County, CA — A third day of combing the Donnell Vista area by Tuolumne County search and rescue and so far no sign of the man who went to the area to fish.

Several teams are looking for 68-year-old Breck Phelps whose red 2007 Nissan Versa was found parked about a quarter mile from the vista off the highway. As reported here, a friend reported Phelps missing on Sunday after he did not return from a weekend fishing trip.

A National Guard Black Hawk Helicopter along with a drone provided by Stanislaus County are searching from the air. Among the teams looking for Phelps on the ground are the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Swift Water Technical Team, Fresno County, Contra Costa County and Alpine County.  Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports on the search conditions, “The weather today is sunny and clear with terrain that includes granite rock faces with extreme changes in elevation and deep canyons with heavy foliage.” She adds that the elevations crews are targeting are from 6300 feet to 4800.
