A Win, A Loss And A Bye

Sonora, CA — There were some tough games with plenty of action on the gridiron in week five of the high school football season.

The Sonora High Wildcats keep their winning streak alive with a hard fought victory over Calaveras High 28-14. Both teams came out flying around the field and the pads never stopped popping in this extremely physical match up.  In the first half the Wildcat offense was nearly stalemated by the combination of the Calaveras defense and a turnover. Sonora trailed Calaveras at the end of the first quarter 7-0.
The only score Sonora put on the board in the first half was a 28-yard hook up from Josh Harris to Evan Bearden in the second quarter and the Cats defense held Calaveras scoreless.

In the 3rd quarter Nate Gookin punched in a 3-yard run to cap a nice Sonora drive to score the only points of the period. Kane Rodgers scored on a short run to start the 4th. Calaveras was able to add six in the middle of the quarter, making it look tight, but the Cats defense shut down the Calaveras offense and kept them scoreless for the rest of the game. Rodgers punched in his second short TD run to end the scoring with Sonora winning, 28-14.

Next week Sonora celebrates Homecoming at home against Amador. Game time is 7p.m.

A loss for Bret Harte as Argonaut beats the Bull Frogs 27 to 13. Summerville had a bye week and then take on the Linden Lions at home next weekend.
