Mono County, CA — A fire burning in the Inyo National Forest has grown to 6,000 acres and it is 20% contained.
Resources from the Mother Lode have been assisting to fight the Owens River Fire. 250 firefighters are committed and it is situated east of Highway 395. Some nearby private housing developments and ranches have been evacuated, as well as the Big Springs Campground, and the popular rock climbing area Clark Canyon. What ignited the fire remains under investigation, but the Forest Service reports that it appears to be human caused. Heavy smoke has been reported in the areas of Bishop, Mammoth Lakes and Lee Vining.
